1<S1~

I

would not, in any way, conflict with the
water supply for the Fryingpan-Arkansas
Project. And as near as we can determine at
this time, would not conflict with the water
supply for any project now under contempla-
tion. The Bureau is proceeding as rapidly
as possible with making reconnaissance cost
estimates of that reservoir site. The plan
which has been worked out that we hope to
carry through is that the excess cost of
that reservoir over and above $7,600,000
will be paid for from the revenues of Pub-
lic Law 485, the Colorado River Storage
Project Act. Many complications arise in
connection with trying to get legislation
authorized in this present session of Con-
gress. Everyone on the Colorado River Board
and the Southeastern Water Conservancy Dis-
trict has been remarkably patient. Everyone
has realized the magnitude of trying to re-
vise this project within a period of a few
months. The State of Colorado is spending
the sum of $75,000 tO'attempt to resolve that
matter so that it can be presented to Congress
in this session.

In the morning at 1:30 A. M. Mr. Moses
and I will leave for Washington wnere we
have a series of conferences starting the
minute we arrive there (we are due to arrive
at 8:30 in the morning) with our congressional
delegation and people in the Bureau of Recla-
mation as well as the staff of the Senate and
House Interior Affairs Committees.

I

We will try to determine this week what
type of legislation can be drafted up in view
of the present plan which would be acceptable
to the Congress.

In addition to the Fryingpan-Arkansas
Project we hope to learn from our congressional
delegation what they think can be done in the
way of congressional action in this session of
Congress for other projects, Curecanti, for
instance, Savery-Pot Hook, the Smith Fork, all
of which are, or will be, ready to go during
the present year. I talked to Congressman
Aspinall before he left for Congress and he
asked that I wait until about this time of the
month so that he could ascertain the temper of
Congress and talk with some of his committee
members.
