It will be necessary for the Colorado Water Conserva-
tion Board to submit to the Bureau of Reclamation official
comments in the near future. In preparation for such comments,
the Board has authorized the holding of three public hearings.
These hearings will be held in the South Platte basin. The I
places and dates of such hearings have not yet been definitely
fixed. However, it is desirable that interested persons,
organizations and groups be furnished with the enclosed informa-
tion for study prior to such hearings. Notices of the hearings
will later be mailed.

NARROWS UNIT
SOUTH PLATTE DIVISION
MISSOURI RIVER BASIN PROJECT

The Narrows Unit of the Missouri River Basin Project con-
sists of a narrow strip of land bordering the South Platte River
from a point just below Kersey, Colorado, to the Colorado-Nebraska
State line. The Narrows Dam and appurtenant features were
authorized under the Flood Control Act of 1944, (Public Law 534),
78th Congress, 2d Session. The Narrows Unit was subsequently
included as a part of the comprehensive plan in the Flood Control
Act of 1946, (Public Law 526), 79th Congress, 2d Session. The.
first appropriation for the dam was granted by the 80th Congress,
1st Session, (P~blic Law 299), a supplemental appropriation
measure which"allotted funds to the Missouri River Basin develop-
ment.

The essential feature of the plan of development is the
Narrows Dam and Reservoir on the South Platte River about seven
miles west of the town of Fort Morgan. The purpose of this
reservoir is to provide flood control and irrigation storage,
with incidental sediment, fish and wildlife, and recreation bene-
fits. Floods on Bijou Creek will be controlled by. diversion of
that creek into Narrows Reservoir.
