I

I

887

plant to be located at Clarkdale, Arizona, some 50 miles south
of Flagstaff, Arizona. Bids for 220,000 tons of pozzolan to be
used with the cement are scheduled to be opened April 29.

The prime contractor is making excellent progress on
excavating spillway intake channels, service roads and tunnels,
and the left diversion tunnel.

Construction of a 25-bed hospital has started. The
contractor for the Colorado River bridge plans to start erection
of bridge steel this month. Some $6-1/3 million in contracts
have been awarded for construction of community facilities for
Page, Arizona, and bids for an administrative building, garage,
fire station, and police station will be asked for in the near
future.

Even with the $10,000,000 supplemental appropriation,
funds will be inadequate to keep up with the present construc-
tion rate this fiscal year; however, the $49,000,000 requested
for F. Y. 1959 should carry the construction forward at a good
rate.

Flaminq Gorqe Unit

Inclement weather and heavy snows have slowed constru~
tion during winter months; however, the construction of 50 per-
manent and temporary houses, several community buildings, and
related facilities at the townsite will be completed in a few
months. Some final finishing and surfacing remain to be done on
the Linwood access road.

The Daggett County Utah School Board has contracted
for construction of a school building to be completed in Septem-
ber of this year. Arrangements have been made with the Utah Gas
Company for the distribution and sale of gas to the community
and the Bridger Valley REA is now furnishing electricity. It
has not yet been concluded whether to obtain town water supply
from wells or by pumping from the river.

Newspaper surveys have been conducted to determine
public opinion for assisting Washington in selection of a name
for the proposed community. Such names as Dutch John, Ashley
Falls, Powell, Progress, and Flamgorda have been popular favor-
ites.

Bids for construction of the dam and powerplant should
be requested soon, however, we have not received word of a defi-
nite date. Invifations for bids on garage, fire station, labora-
tory and administration buildings are being delayed by appropria-
tion committee action.
