WHITTEN:

- "That is a very valuable report."

"The Arkansas Valley is beginning to be quite
disturbed about the water table dropping. When
will you be working in that locality?

MR. McLAUGHLIN: '~e are now working in Prowers County and hope
to be in Bent County next year."

MR. WHITTEN:

"Is there much chance of getting into Pueblo
County soon?"

I

MR. McLAUGHLIN: "Not unless we can get the people. The
reason we started in Prowers is because that
is the area most seve~y stricken by the
drought."

MR. CRAWFORD: "That is the real reason we got the money."

MR. MILLER: "How far around the Denver area is your
investiga tion?

MR. McLAUGHLIN: "It is hard to draw sharp lines on that but I
would say along the lines of approximately
Fitzsimons Hospital, Littleton, Golden, and
Thornton."

MR. CRAWFORD: "I feel that the Geological Survey is
furnishing a very valuable assistance."

MR. MILLER: "Mr. Whitten, do you relate your activities
to the Geological Survey?"

MR. WHITTEN: "No sir, we don't."

MR. MILLER:

MR. WHITTEN:

MR. BAILEY:

"I have heard that studies have been made
which indicate a large depletion along the
South Platte River through the Denver and
down-stream areas. People have been t~lking
about a figure of 140,000 a.f. a year for this
depletion. Mr. Whitten, have you made any:.
studies as to these depletions in the South
Platte?" .

I

"We don't know how much the depletion is.
We do know there is heavy depletion. There
are several private-interest investigafions
but we do not do that work."

"Thank you, Mr. Mclaughlin, for your
interesting report."
