I

I

MR. MILLER:

MR. McLAUGHLIN:

MR. MILLER:
MR. McLAUGHLIN:
MR. MILLER:
MR. McLAUGHLIN:

1 '437

in housing developments where the principal
source of water is from deep artesian wells -
until factual information as to the availability
of ground wate~is known.

The development of homes and industries
has been seriously hampered in the Denver area
by the lack of information on ground water.
At least one huge industry that would have
brought millions of dollars of annual payroll
into Colorado was located in an adjacent State
where information on ground water ,was available,
because similar information on the Denver area
was not available. In view of this situation
and in view of the fact that the regular State-
Federal program has not been adequate to make
the sizeable investigation that would be required
in the Denver area, the Denver Water Board
appropriated $5,000 for F. Y. 1957 to match
with Federal funds to supplement the State-
Federal program. The detailed investigation will
begin in July and will require at least 5 years
to complete. Maps will be prepared as the
investigation progresses so that information
will be available to the public at the earliest
possitle date.

5. Public service - During F; Y. 1957
a great deal of time will be spent in answering
inquiries on ground-water supplies. With the
continuation of the drought and the continued
increased clemands for ground water, the number
of inquiries increases steadily. During F. Y.
1956 this office answered nearly 1,000
inquiries on ground-water supplies in Colorado
and it is expected that the number will increase
considerably in F. Y. 1957."

'~lhen do you anticipate the completion of the
Denver-Greeley Program?"

"That will take a long time.
will be only the main stream
and will be about 2 years."

The first phase
from Greeley down

'~ill that be taken care of by federal funds?"

"Yes~"

~Would cooperative funds help?"

"Personnel is one of our great problems and
consequently we cannot give an answer on that
point at this time. We have 2 engineers and 6
or 7 geologists and several other employees such
as draftsmen. We also work in cooperation with Mr.
Code.
