I

I

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. SARGENT:

.!.q,:).)

involved in this whole matter and that you will
be patient with those of us who are trying to
get the facts.

One of the members of this Board said that
I must be losing my buttons. Maybe I am. When
that member was appointed to this Board some of
his neighbors said that Ed Johnson must be losing
his buttons. So it does look as though I didn't
have all of my buttons on one side or the other.
However that may be, there is one thing that this
Board member said that I can't forgive because
it's the first time in my life that I've ever
been wrongfully accused to the extent that he
has accused me. He said that I had sold out to
the private utilities. Now the private utilities -
all five of them - haven't got money enough to buy
the finger nail on that small finger of mine. I
.2!!! not for sale and anyone tha t says that I am
for sale, or that I have sold out, simply because
he may disagree with some of the things that I
say, is making a great mistake.

I thank you, Mr. Chairman and members of the
Board, for permitting me to express some thoughts
here today. I appreciate the opportunity of being
here and having a chance to hear the argument pro
and con. I've tried to read; tried to figure;
and tried to evaluate all of the figures here.
I've spent hours and hours and hours doing it and
I still need more information. Thank you very
much."

"Thank you, Governor Johnson. I think we are
in this position, that we obviously are not going
to finish by the noon hour. The Board members
will meet at 12:15 at the Argonaut for lunch and
we will go as far as we can until approximately
noon or five minutes thereafter and then we'll
recess during the lunch period.

I'll call on Mr. Ralph Sargent of the Public
Service Company of Colorado who states that he'll
take approximately a half an hour to present his
views. Mr. Sargent."

"I've got some material I'd like to hand out
