.&::::0.::)':1'

I

fact that we have five projects that will be
pending in this next session of Congress for
authorization, it's going to require heavy
travel to Washington, D. C., to present testi-
mony on these-various projects. This situation
will continue for many years. If you will note
at the back of the book we listed the current
water resource development program which is
now actually in progress. Every project that's
listed there is being actively worked on today.

There are many other projects, as you
know, which we have not started yet, but the
program that you see in the last two pages of
your book, the total of those projects exceeds
$1 billion. We put that in there so that the
Appropriations Committee of the General Assembly
could have some idea of what our program is.
As you can see from that list, we are building
up a substantial backlog of projects. It will
require a tremendous effort in the future to
get those projects authorized and under con-
struction. You will note that we have actually
under construction today, projects totally
$114 million. $41 million more have been
authorized and we believe will be started dur-
ing the next two years.

Are there any questions on the General
Administration part of the budget?

I

Our big fund is Special Investigative
Studies. Now it's not possible to really item-
ize this fund because the scope of our inves-
tigations depends a great deal - I could say
almost entirely - upon the federal budget. The
federal budget, the counterpart of this budget,
will not be adopted probably until next August.
So we are always a little in the dark in pre-
paring our budget since we are almost a year
ahead of the federal budget in our preparation.
But we are acquainted with the requests that
have been made by the Bureau of Reclamation for
their various programs. Some of the items con-
tained in the project investigations we know
definitely will occur, particularly the Narrows
Project. As you recall, our contract with the
