-....""...

following the general pattern of reporting, on
construction activities, first on the main
storage units, then on the participating proj-
ects, and then a resume of our investigation
work.

Our principal storage unit, the Glen Canyon
Pam, is practically complete. Only two items
of construction remain yet to be accomplished.
One item of completing the tunnel plug is 98
percent complete: the other item, the completion
of the Visitor Center is scheduled for completion
next spring. 'l'1ith the completion of this Visitor
Center, we should then be able to have all
facilities available for the self-guided tours
through this structure and powerplant.

I

On the Curecanti unit, recent work at Blue
Mesa Pam - as you all know, the dam itself is
completed - has been mostly in the powerhouse.
The completion contractor is concentrating on
installation of the turbines and plans to have
the plant operable early in 1967. Approximately
80 percent of the work has been completed on the
switchyard on the canyon rim between the power-
house and u. s. Highway 50. OVerall completion
of the contract is about 65 percent and \V"e are
scheduling now to start generation of power in
about May of this next year. Due to a very un-
fortunate and expensive accident by the contrac-
tor, we are having to delay our date of initial
power generation for about 3 months. The con-
tractor, unfortunatel~ dropped the main trans-
former for the powerplant.

On the next structure of. the Curecanti
unit, the Morrow Point Dam, the placement of
concrete on the dam was suspended for the winter
months on October 28. OVer 237,500 cubic yards I
have been placed during the past construction
season. A total of 280,500 cubic yards of con-
crete have been placed in the dam, and the
highest blocks are 360 feet above bedrock,
leaving 105 feet to go to complete the struc-
ture. If the contractor meets his schedule,
the concrete placement in the dam should be com-
pleted in the middle of the summer, about August
