It is estimated that an additional 2,000,000 documents still need to be
inventoried, prepped and sCamled.

To advance this project, additional funding is hereby requested for the following items (also see
attached table):

Purchase of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Hardware and Software

Many of the agency's documents have been inventoried and recorded in a database for retrieval.
The current viewer software allows users to enter a case number or other uuique identifier to
search for imaged documents. However, many of the agency's documents are topical in nature
and not easily assigned a unique case number. To solve this problem, the Imaging Committee
has recommended purchasing Optical Character Recoguition software that would allow users to
search imaged documents using words or topics. The estimated cost of this software is $15,000.

Purchase of WEB Server and Programming for Internet Access

One goal of the Imaging Project is to make agency information available to the public over the
Internet. In order to accomplish this, the agency must purchase a separate WEB server and
contract for the customized progra.nUn;i;g to direct WEB inquiries to the agency's imaging
database. The estimated cost for this hardware and progranmling is $15,000.

z

-
