~

The Divide Tunnel, the south Fork Tunnel, and
the Chapman Tunnel are under contract at the
present time and I'll comment a little further
with respect to progress on that. The esti-
mated diversion is 70,000 acre-feet on an
average annual basis. The north side has an
extension which includes Last Chance and Lime
Creek. As of the present time, this portion
of the collection system is in a deferred
status. The rest of the collection system
is active and we expect to pursue the con-
struction of this collection system as rapidly
as we can, including going into Hunter Creek
to secure water from this tributary and going
to the north tributary of the Fryingpan River
to include the last creel, which is Carter
Creek at the north extremity.

~

Now we continue to the east slope. This
is a continuation of the Continental Divide
Tunnel and into Turquoise Lake created by
sugar Loaf Dam. Sugar Loaf Dam is under con-
tract at the present time and I might add the
contractor is making excellent progress and
in all probability will complete this dam one
year ahead of schedule. We anticipate
essential completion of this dam this fall.
The canal system that I mentioned has provi-
sions for a diversion from the Arkansas River
in the vicinity of Malta between Leadville
and Turquoise Lake about four miles west of
Leadville. Also we will release water out
of Turquoise Lake into the canal system. This
canal. system extends down along past Mount
Massive and Mount.Elbert and feeds a forebay
on the high ground to the north of Twin L~'es.
This forebay then will be the immediate source
of water to feed the powerplant which will be
on the north shore of T\~in Lakes Reservoir.

Twin Lakes and Turquoise are e:dsting
reservoirs at the present time, Turquoise Lake
being owned by the C.F.& I. Steel corporation.
Twin Lakes is owned by the irrigators in
CrO\~ley County ,.,here they have an e:dsting
irrigation economy of some 50,000 acres. This
reservoir is a source of storage for them of
