appears to be feasible in the potential
multiple-purpose reservoir under study by
the Bureau of Reclamation on HUerfano River
about 5 miles downstream from the junction
with the cucharas River. Further considera-
tion also will be given to multiple-purpose
reservoirs on tributaries of the Arkansas
River including storage for municipal and
industrial water supply and recreation, fish
and wildlife enhancement. However, the pros-
pects of satisfying the needs of the area for
water supply and water-associated recreation
are not encouraging because the water supply
is over-appropriated for irrigation use.

with regard to the reach below John
Martin Dam, as has been previously reported,
consideration is being given to a system of
detention reservoirs on the principal tribu-
taries of the Arkansas River in Colorado from
the dam down to the colorado-Kansas state
line. studies of these potential projects
are being continued but their feasibility and
economic justification have not yet been
determined.

We have coordinated tentative plan of
improvement above John Martin Reservoir with
state and federal agencies. When plans of
these potential projects are more fully devel-
oped, it is planned to present them to local
interests for comment. We plan to start this
local coodination procedure with the South-
eastern Colorado Water Conservancy District.
We hope to be able to appear before the regu-
lar meeting of the S.E.C.W.C.D. either in
July or August and then in coordination with
the S.E.C.W.C.D. with other cities and com-
munities, those for which local protection
projects are to be recommended. In the
course of those discussions we would present
the requirements of local cooperation, the
typical ones of lands, easements, damages,
relocations, and we would request assurances
of local cooperation or letters of intent
from the sponsoring organizations.
