.J.JU~

this part of his report). As you will see
over on the left hand side, existing author-
ized and'considered projects are indicated
in distinctive colors. Our activities, of
course, as the Board well knows, consist of
preauthorization studies for flood control I
and related purposes in the Arkansas River
Basin; preconstruction planning of the auth-
orized Las Animas Local protection Project;
construction of Trinidad as we have been talk-
ing about; operation of the John Martin
Reservoir project; and collection and dissemi-
nation of flood plain information. Channel improvement on the main stem
from Brewster to Florence and from Pueblo to
Las Animas, a total distance of approximately
35 miles; and

b. Local protection projects on the I
Arkansas River and tributaries at Cotopaxi,
Florence, portland, pueblo, and Rocky Ford.
The total first cost of these potential im-
provements is presently estimated to be in
excess of $77 million. Benefits would accrue
from reduction of flood damage and major
drainage. In addition, flood control storage
