the storage pool and those which are not
needed for public use provided that it is
financially advantageous to the government.
The lands involved to be acquired are about
3,600 acres. Most of this is grange land
and some of it is grazing land. However,
there are about 155 urban acres and about 305
acres of irrigated cropland.

We have also a relocation problem here
involving some 1,500 people in about five
towns within the reservoir area. As I have
noted in the published report and included
in the record, the resettlement of these per-
sons is a potential problem area and it is
certainly also encouraging that the local
interests have recognized the problem. Many
of these people are of extremely low incomes
who are to be relocated. I also noted in
last night's Denver Post, an indication that
there is a Trinidad Housing Authority which
has been formed and that they have now ob-
tained a loan from the Department of Housing
and Urban Development for something close to
$600,000 which would allow 40 low rental homes
to be constructed. Obviously 40 homes will
not go very far toward the resettlement of
the families corresponding to these 1500
people, but certainly represents a start.
I would surely hope for a type of multiply-
ing and acceleration effort in which the
provision of these first 40 homes would make,
perhaps, some of the homes of people who move
into them, available for the resettlement of
the people from the recreation area and so
forth.
