The next contract will be let for <br />construction after water deliveries are com- <br />pleted in the fall. <br /> <br />That pretty well completes the report of <br />the Small Watershed portion of our water re- <br />source activities. I have the report for <br />the River Basin surveys also. <br /> <br />Under Type I Comprehensive Surveys, <br />Upper Colorado Region, survey operations are <br />generally organized and work assignments are <br />being developed. Eight federal departments <br />and five states are represented. Fourteen <br />wor]. groups have been established to develop <br />and organize basic data on a subject matter <br />basis, with participation by all governmental <br />or state agencies having an interest in the <br />assignments of each work group. Ten of the <br />14 work groups have already met and developed <br />work plans, outlines, and schedules. <br /> <br />An Upper Basin Staff has been organized <br />to coordinate work activities and provide a <br />general direction and staff assistance -for the <br />conduct of the survey. The Staff is now <br />engaged in the preparation of overall schedules, <br />coordinated budgets, report outline, and plan <br />of Study for the Upper Colorado Region. <br /> <br />The Soil Conservation Service and the <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board are <br />collaborating closely on all phases of the <br />survey activities. The River Basin Staff <br />has been increased to include two additional <br />engineers, a hydrologist, an additional soils <br />technician, and an engineering technical aide. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Present tentative schedules provide for <br />the completion of field work within the next <br />18 months, and preparation of the final re- <br />port in the spring of 1970. <br /> <br />Under the ~tlssouri River Basin, data on <br />the needs for irrigation system improvement <br />and rehabilitation for the Colorado portion of <br />
