..J..J"":-:E"

Engineer in Denver for preparation of feasi-
bility designs and estimates. Preparation
of feasibility designs and estimates on the
remaining project features is being accom-
plished in the Grand Junction office. The I
drainage and water supply appendices are com-
pleted. preparation of the plan Formulation
and Agricultural Economy Appendices is continu-
ing. We now anticipate the proposed reports
will be completed in the fall of this year.

Land classification and drainage field
work on the Basalt project, a project in the
vicinity of Carbondale, will be undertal,en
wi thin the ne},t 30 days. This work ",ill be
accomplished with funds contributed by the
Basalt Water conservancy District.

We have tvlO projects under advance plan-
ning. These projects are the Fruitland Mesa
and Savery-pot Hook projects. Our Definite
Plan Report on the Fruitland Mesa project is
well along. We have just received our last
estimates on this project and we will have
our Definite plan Report out within a very
short time. The Fruitland Mesa project will
develop presently unused flows of Soap, Cure-
canti, and Crystal Creeks for irrigation, fish
and wildlife, and recreation. The project
will provide a full irrigation supply to 15,870
acres of land and a supplemental supply for
7,010 acres that are not now adequately served
from Crystal and Iron Creeks. The plan of
development is essentially the same as for-
warded to Congress in the February 1962
Feasibility Report. Flows of Soap Creek will
be regulated at the 48,235 acre-foot soap Park
Reservoir located about 10 miles above the
creek's junction with the Gunnison River.
Water will be released into the Slack Mesa
Conduit and transported to crystal Creek, pick-
ing up unused flows of Curecanti Creek en route.
These flows and unused flows of Crystal Creek
will then be diverted into the Fruitland Canal,
which will extend northwest 22 miles, for dis-
tribution to the project lands.
