S!)40

participating project on the western slope
under construction, the Bostwick park project,
the contractor has initiated work again at
this site. It was closed down during the
winter months. The work consists principally
of stripping on the abutments.

On our transmission system, the items
under construction and yet to be completed
are the poncha-~tidway 230-kv line and sub-
stations at Midway and Rifle. All of this
work is scheduled for co~pletion in 196B.

I

Another item of possible interest, we
are planning in the near future to install
additional equipment on some of our trans-
mission lines. These will consist of installa-
tion of Series Capacitor Stations. The purpose
of this equipment is to increase the capability
of these transmission lines. The first one
will be on the 345-kv line from Glen Canyon
to Pinnacle Peak.

As an item of interest, this large inter-
connection of power systems, the East-West tie,
which was first made on February 7, 1967,
remains intact and has continued to operate,
even though there have been a number of
problems. A vital link in the East-West tie
is the 230-kv transmission line from Hayden
to Cheyenne (Archer). This line was broken
on April 13 when a severe snow and ice storm
coupled with high winds toppled seven steel
towers near Che~'enne. They were successful
in securing replacement steel from other con-
struction activities and this line was put
back in operation in about a three \"eeks period.

As of April IS, 1967, the Bureau had 77 I
contracts for the sale of firm power, includ-
ing one contract recently completed with
Intermountain Consumer Power Association
which superseded 19 individual customer con-
tracts in Utah. These contracts provide for
a total delivery of about 593 megawatts this
summer, increasing to a total delivery of about
