animosity or hostility on our part but we
certainly are concerned grievously about the
losses that our people undergo just in this
area, in the truck gardening and in the other
areas where they have used water, where they I
have had an economy that has sustained this
area for many, many years. We don't intend
to sit idly by and see another economy leech
out of u, the lifeblood by claiming our water .
that we have used in the past.

I thiruc this is an outstanding meeting.
If you can just call a meeting and have cloudy
weather, you are certainly making great
progress. It rather reminded me of a dry-land
farmer I knew who worked for a while in north~
eastern Colorado; then he moved and farmed in
southeastern Colorado. Following that, he
farmed in northern and then central New Ne;dco.
Then he moved to southern New !4exico and died
and went straight to hell. But it didn't make
much difference because the change was so
gradual he hardly noticed it.

We notice the change here and we are
going to try to keep those people to whom we
have redress appraised of the change and the
situations that we think do affect us. Seri-
ously, I do think that the legislature was
very firm in its upholding the status quo.
I do thiruc that the legislature felt that the
study committee that Senator Locke has men-
tioned is going to be an important one to us.
I personally would certainly appreciate any
help that your organization can lend to me as
a legislator in the workings with the study
committee in drafting the legislation that
will be coming before the General Assembly.
