I

Recently, however, the farmers in the
Armel area have indicated strong support for
proceeding with the construction of facili-
ties to supply irrigation water to the table-
lands north and east of the dam. Approximately
7,000 acres of land in the Armel area could
be furnished a water supply for irrigation.
The 750 acres of irrigated lands under the
Hale Ditch would continue to be furnished a
regulated water supply. That is just below
the dam and on the right hand bank.

Congress, as you know, deauthorized
all units of the Missouri aiver Basin not
under construction in 1964. Therefore the
irrigation function of the Armel Unit had to
be reauthorized and that's why detailed
studies leading to a feasibility report have
to be started. They have been started and
we expect to have that study completed during
FY 1973.

On the Front Range Unit, I am sure all
of you are familiar with the various towns
and topography there. The Front Range Unit
was formed by pulling together the two units
previously investigated by the Region 7
office - the St. Vrain which we completed in
1967 and the Cache la poudre which we com-
pleted in 1966. The area we will study now
will be Boulder Creek, st. Vrain Creek and
the Cache la poudre drainage basins.

I

Previous studies have shown that the
municipal water needs of the fast-growing
cities of Boulder, Estes Park, Fort Collins,
Greeley, Longmont, and Loveland will outstrip
the presently available supplies in the rela-
tively near future. Various plans to augment
their water supplies will be studied, such as
development of additional storage reservoirs
in the foothills, consolidation of irrigation
facilities and reduction of seepage and
evaporation losses.
