Multipurpose dams and reservoirs in the
Cache la Poudre River and St. Vrain Creek
basins and adjacent areas, plus better water
management practices and consolidated facili-
ties, would provide more municipal and indus-
trial water supplies for the communities
located along the east slope of the Front
Range. Possible integration of colorado-Big
Thompson water and newly-developed water will
be studied. The return flows from the in-
creased municipal and industrial water supply
will also enhance downstream irrigation sup-
plies.

I

, All proposed developments will be fully
coordinated with all other phases of the Colo-
rado environment. Environment - we hear that
word quite regularly. Recreation and fishing
enhancement, water quality protection, and
flood control will be coordinated. In recent
years, flooding in this area has caused wide-
spread damage. The water rights of all parties
will be considered and the hydrologic investi-
gations will be integrated with others in the
South Platte River Basin. The feasibility
report is scheduled for completion in FY 1974.

Another study which I might also mention
and which is just about to get under way, is
a reconnaissance investigation to develop a
Colorado State Water Plan. This will be a
joint effort as far as the Bureau is con-
cerned of the three regions which represent
Colorado, Region 4 in Salt Lake and Region 5
in Amarillo will work with Region 7 on ,this,
along with the State of Colorado itself.

The rapidly expanding demands for munici-
pal and industrial water supplies on the I
eastern slope pose a threat to the supplies
now available for irrigation.
