fish and wildlife areas are needed, especially
those that are readily accessible to city
residents. Water quality control requirements
will need to be determined.

I

The study will consist of a broad in-
vestigation of potential industrial and
agricultural growth, population expansion,
and the water requirements for use of those
potentials.

Possibilities for further development
of water supplies will be explored with
particular emphasis on water reuses, integra-
tion of surface and ground water, maintenance
or enhancement of quality, improvement in
efficiencies of existing storage and distri-
bution facilities, and integration of conser-
vation and control of excess flows. Several
state agencies plan to contribute a signifi-
cant amount of work to these investigations.
The studies will recognize existing interbasin
and transmountain movement of water in the
state.

Close coordination of work will be re-
quired with the several interested federal
and state agencies, especially your Colorado
Water Conservation Board. A plan to develop
the most efficient use of the state's land
and water resources will be formulated in a
reconnaissance report scheduled for comple-
tion in FY 1974.

I

The next investigation I would like to
discuss is the Narrows Unit. You can see on
this map where the Narrows Unit is. This
proposed project has been on and off of the
Bureau's drawing boards for about 25 years.
Beset with local problems, site location and
floods, the formulation of a plan satisfactory
to all interests has been difficult indeed
to say the least. The project has been re-
evaluated to reflect new benefits and costs
levels, a change in interest rate and the
addition of a proposed fish hatchery.
