this morning. I am very happy to be here and
give you the status of Region 7's operations
in Colorado. As he said, we have these new
investigations that we are starting right now
for this fiscal year. As you know, we didn't
get the money until about two weeks ago for I
the new investigations so we are just getting
under way. We will talk a little bit about
our Narrows Project and also the Upper South
Platte or the TWo Forks area.

First, I'll talk about the new investi-
gations in regard to the Arkansas Valley
Project. Here is a map that shows you from
the Continental Divide to the state line east
and from the Arkansas River to the state line
north. Investigations on the Arkansas Valley
Project will be initiated this year and are
scheduled to be completed in FY 1972. This
is a reconnaissance investigation which will
cover the Arkansas Valley from Pueblo Dam to
the Kansas state line. We will explore the
potentialities for enhancing irrigation water
supplies by improvements to existing irriga-
tion systems by integrated use of ground and
surface water supplies, and by increased regu-
lation of flood and normal flows in the Colo-
rado portion of the Upper Arkansas River
Basin.

The Armel Unit, Which is near Bonny Dam
(Mr. Nelson is pointing at it now), we made
a report on that under the st. Francis Unit.
This Armel Unit was authorized in the Flood
Control Act of 1944 and Bonny Dam and Reser-
voir, located on the Republican River near
the state line, were constructed as an
emergency flood control measure in advance
of the finalization of irrigation plans. I
Construction of the dam was completed in
1951. A definite plan report relating to
the irrigation features of the unit was com-
pleted in April 1954. However, construction
of the irrigation facilities was deferred
because of a lack of interest in irrigation
aut there at that time. '
