.

3. With the assistance ofIoca1 participants and potential proiect sponsors. develop
and evaluate one or more water supply alternatives consisting of structural and
non-structural measures in each river basin of the state to identify those
alternatives which appear to be feasible as well as politically and socially
acceptable.

4. Formulate water development strategies for the implementation of the most
promising alternatives in each basin.

5. Build a consensus among all parties to the study process as to which alternatives
and strategies should be pursued for implementation.

Studv Scope

The SWSI is proposed as a reconnaissance-level investigation that will be conducted in
sufficient detail to: distinguish the major differences between alternatives, provide a
preliminary indication of feasibility for each alternative and determine if further analyses
are justified. The study scope will be comprehensive in that it will, within study budget
limitations, address all aspects of water supply and water demand in Colorado over the
next 30 years.

The major study tasks are:

.

Initial Work Tasks

Task 1 - Public Information and Involvement Activities

Task 2 - Data Collection and Review

Task 3 - Final Scoping Activities

Statewide Background Information

Task 4 - Overview of the Physical Environment

Task 5 - Institutional Setting

Task 6 - Demography, Economy and Social Setting

Basin-Sl'ecific Tasks

Task 7 - Basin Descriptions

Task 8 - Water Supplies Available for Development in Each Basin

.

Task 9 - Existing and Projected Water Demands in Each Basin

3
