<br />four-dam system would be proposed in place <br />of the three-dam system. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />In Denver, as a result of discussions <br />with the city and county of Denver Planning <br />Department, we have requested authority to <br />prepare an interim report on the South <br />Platte ~iver through Denver in connection <br />with the city's redevelopment activities. <br />The type of study we foresee here would be <br />to determine a balance between structural <br />and non-structural flood damage reduction <br />measures required in this area near Denver. <br />As of this time we have not received <br />authority on this request. <br /> <br />Flooding in May of this year revived <br />interest in flood control measures along <br />the South Platte River downstream from <br />Denver. A channel and levee project from <br />Denver to Fort Morgan was authorized by <br />the Flood control Act of 1950~ We plan to <br />make a feasibility study to determine if <br />the authorized project is justified under <br />current physical and economic conditions <br />along the south Platte River. If the scope <br />of the authorized project has changed sub- <br />stantially, however, we would reformulate <br />the project and seek new authorization. <br /> <br />The city of Boulder has expressed <br />interest in the Boulder Creek project, <br />which was also authorized by the Flood <br />Control Act of 1950. A feasibility study <br />of the authorized project will be made, and <br />if the scope of the project has changed <br />sufficiently, we would reformulate the proj- <br />ect and seek new authorization. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />In our continuing authorities program, <br />the Chief of Engineers has been granted <br />authority by Congress in various flood con- <br />trol acts to construct small water resource <br />projects.
