<br />engineering members who are appointed by <br />the board itself. <br /> <br />The board has almost unlimited author- <br />ity in the field of flood control in the <br />metropolitan area. We think it will pro- <br />vide a very valuable assistance in flood <br />control planning and should be able to take <br />a considerable burden off this Board as <br />far as the metropolitan area is concerned. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The second meeting of the board will <br />be held next week. I attended the organ- <br />izational meeting and either I or a <br />member of the staff will be present at all <br />of the meetings of the district. We have <br />offered the assistance of this Board. We <br />even offered to let them acquire the <br />channel for the Chatfield Dam, the Chat- <br />field Project, if they so desired. <br /> <br />We hope to meet with that district in <br />the near future so that the members of our <br />staff and the members of the staff from <br />the Corps of Engineers of the Omaha Dis- <br />trict can explain to the board what is <br />taking place in the flood control field <br />in the metropolitan area. Actually there <br />is a considerable amount of activity as <br />you know. At the present time, either <br />authorized or in the planning stage by <br />the Corps of Engineers there is in excess <br />of $200 million worth of projects in the <br />Denver metropolitan area. A few of them <br />have been authorized, the Chatfield and <br />the Mount Carbon. Some of these projects <br />are a revival of previous authorizations, <br />either under the 1940 or 1950 Flood Con- <br />trol Acts. Others are fairly new such <br />as the plans on Sand Creek. In any event, I~'.. <br />there isa tremendous amount of activity <br />on the part of the Corps of Engineers in <br />the metropolitan area. <br /> <br />There are many areas, however, which <br />
