Mr. Chairman, to give you a brief
report of some of the events that have
happened and some of the jobs that we are
working on, today we are primarily con-
cerned with flood control problems on the
South Platte. The Corps of Engineers will
go into that in more detail later.

We are progressing on the chatfield
channel acquisition which is the responsi-
bility of this Board. We have contracts
under way for the appraisal of about seven
miles of the river below the dam. The
time schedule is to complete those ap~.
praisals by about the 1st of October.
This is requiring a lot of staff time.
Where necessary we are doing the survey
work to stake out the various parcels.
The landowners have been quite cooperative.
As a matter of fact we received a letter
from one of the landowners this week com-
mending members of our staff, particularly
Mr. Miller and Mr. Teed, who are the staff
members contacting the landowners. This
will be a burdensome problem to acquire
these parcels and may entail considerable
expense before we are through.

The Governor has requested us to under-
take a survey of the potential pollution
problem at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. As
you know, some difficulty has been exper-
ienced in past years with pollution of
the groundwater aquifer below the Rocky
Mountain Arsenal. We will prepare a
detailed report for the Governor on that
situation. Again, this will demand a great
deal of staff time. Our staff time is
split among about fifty different jobs at
the present time. This will create an
extra burden but we will be able to accom-
plish the job. We expect to receive the
cooperation of the State Water Pollution
Control Commission on this, the Geological
Survey and the united States Army. We will

I

I
