on the dam is about 45 percent complete. Only
limited clearing activity has been started under
the $1,042,604 contract awarded for construction
of the Florida Farmers Ditch Diversion Dam.

paonia Dam, major feature of the paonia
Project, is complete. Initial storage of water
in paonia Reservoir began in February 1962, and
the reservoir filled and spilled in mid-May.
Responsibility for operating and maintaining
facilities of the Paonia Project was transferred
by the Bureau of Reclamation to the North Fork
Water Conservancy District on June 1, 1962.
We have reached a milestone in the Colorado
River storage project in that Paonia is the
first participating project of the Colorado River
Storage Project to be turned over to a water
users' organization for operation.

Work on the Smith Fork Project, a neighbor
to the paonia Project, moves ahead. Crawford
Dam and Reservoir is more than three-fourths
completed. Final cleanup of the Crawford Reser-
voir area is now underway. Present plans call for
completion of Crawford Dam in the fall of 1962.
Construction is also well along on other struc-
tures of the Smith Fork Project--the Aspen
Canal, the Smith Fork Diversion Dam, and the
Smith Fork Feeder Canal.

During the past three years all projects in
Colorado with reservoirs constructed by the
Bureau of Reclamation have experienced a good
water supply. This year the storage content of
the various reservoirs is excellent.

Under Planning, reconnaissance investiga-
tions, the Grand Mesa reconnaissance investiga-
tion and report have been completed. The recon-
naissance report indicates that feasibility
investigations are warranted.
