<br />spillway basin continues. Overall construction <br />on the dam is about 45 percent complete. Only <br />limited clearing activity has been started under <br />the $1,042,604 contract awarded for construction <br />of the Florida Farmers Ditch Diversion Dam. <br />Florida Farmers Ditch enlargement, and enlarge- <br />ment of the Florida Canal. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />paonia Dam, major feature of the paonia <br />Project, is complete. Initial storage of water <br />in paonia Reservoir began in February 1962, and <br />the reservoir filled and spilled in mid-May. <br />Responsibility for operating and maintaining <br />facilities of the Paonia Project was transferred <br />by the Bureau of Reclamation to the North Fork <br />Water Conservancy District on June 1, 1962. <br />We have reached a milestone in the Colorado <br />River storage project in that Paonia is the <br />first participating project of the Colorado River <br />Storage Project to be turned over to a water <br />users' organization for operation. <br /> <br />Work on the Smith Fork Project, a neighbor <br />to the paonia Project, moves ahead. Crawford <br />Dam and Reservoir is more than three-fourths <br />completed. Final cleanup of the Crawford Reser- <br />voir area is now underway. Present plans call for <br />completion of Crawford Dam in the fall of 1962. <br />Construction is also well along on other struc- <br />tures of the Smith Fork Project--the Aspen <br />Canal, the Smith Fork Diversion Dam, and the <br />Smith Fork Feeder Canal. <br /> <br />During the past three years all projects in <br />Colorado with reservoirs constructed by the <br />Bureau of Reclamation have experienced a good <br />water supply. This year the storage content of <br />the various reservoirs is excellent. <br /> <br />Under Planning, reconnaissance investiga- <br />tions, the Grand Mesa reconnaissance investiga- <br />tion and report have been completed. The recon- <br />naissance report indicates that feasibility <br />investigations are warranted. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Preparation of the Juniper Project recon- <br />naissance report is in progress.
