~~Oq

toward filling the hole that we had in Lake
Mead, that must be taken into our account in
our filling criteria for G~n Canyon. The
more water we can get in Lake Mead this year
and next year the easier our filling 'problems
are going' to be after we get into the filling
program on Glen Canyon.

I

At Flaming Gorge the contractor is moving
along at a record pace this summer and he is
still setting his goal to finish the topout .
of the dam this fall, in late October or early
November. He resumed placing concrete the 2nd
day of April and during the month of June he
put in a little over 60,000 cubic yards. To.
date he has 700,000 out of the 1,000,000 yards
placed. The highest block now stands at 350
feet with the ultimate height to be 502. Again
this spring we awarded the completion contract
on Flaming Gorge, a contract for $1,971,823.
That completion contractor has moved on the job
and will be there until the job is finished.

Navajo Dam is on the final lap now. Over
25,000,000 yards have been placed and the con-
tractor expects to finish placing the fill in
this mid-summer and we are scheduling a dedi-
cation ceremony at Navajo Dam September 15th.
As I mentioned awhile ago, the actual use of
the'reservoir has already begun with the drop-
ping of stoplogs and the outlet works. There
will not be very much water stored this summer
because of the need for waiting until after
the major runoff has passed and the fact that
the dam was not completed high enough so that
we could close before the bulk of the runoff
this year. It does get us in a position,
though, to fully capture the storable flow
next spring.

Brief mention of Blue Mesa which is the
subject of a ground breaking ceremony tomorrow,
the prime contract was awarded to the Tecon Cor-
poration of Dallas on April 4th, a contract for
$13,706,230 for that contractor to build the
dam and the powerplant. That contractor is

I
