(,
3.63

I

Completion of a feasibility report was
scheduled for FY 1956. Further investigation was
discountinued because of conflict in project water
supply with the City of Denver's replacement right
in Williams Reservoir. We understand that further
discussions are being held with local people and
the City of Denver. The resumption of investigations
will depend on the outcome of ' these meetings.

Curecanti Unit, Colorado River Storage Project.
Drafting of the status report is underway and is
scheduled for completion in January 1956. Drilling
operations are in progress on the Blue Mesa Dam axis,
however, because of winter conditions it is not
expected that we will be able to complete drilling
and materials explorations for Narrow Gauge and
Morrow Point sites until next summer. As far as we
know the Geological Survey is proceeding satisfactorily
on the mapping of 6 - 7t min. quadrangles covering the
area between the boundary of the Black Canyon Monument
and the recently completed topograp~of' Curecanti
Reservoir. Comparative estimates by the Chief Engineer
are contemplated later this fiscal ~e~r to determine
whether best economy is in high concrete arch dam at
Morrow Point inundating Narrow Gauge site or if the
two-dam combination is more advantageous. Future
investigation plans provide for completion of a
feasibility or definite plan report in FY 1959 depend-
ing upon whether or not the project is authorized in
pending legislation. Fish and Wildlife Service has
requested $95,000 and three years time to ascertain
extent of damages that would occur if proposed plan
of development for Curecanti Unit was undertaken.

De Beque Project. Completion of a
reconnaissance report on the De Beque Project is
underway and is expected to be ready for distribution
in February 1956. Preliminary computations show the
power potentialities to be justified if all power can
be marketed locally. However, if market conditions
require transmission of De Beque power to Eastern
Colorado Markets the power development would be
marginal. The irrigation phases appear to be marginal
in any case. Assuming the reconnaissance report will
show the project to be feasible the start of detailed
investigations on the project have been programed for
FY 1958 but could be given priority over some of.the
presently programed investigations if so desired.

I
