o \IJ.

I

the need for additional more detailed studies, not only upon
the San Juan, but the South Platte. to continue studies in
the San Luis Valley and the Arkansas, because the Board
needed to be in a position where they would know-exactly the
conditions in these basins.

MR. KELLY:

"I endorse the request because we
have only a tentative report on the San
Juan-Chama Diversion. Some people have
claimed that it will dry up the San Juan
River. I know this is not so. but feel
that it might have some effect on the
Animas-La Plata."

The question was called for and upon vote, the
motion carried unanimously.

MR. MOSES:

"I would like to comment on the meet-
ing in Alamosa, March 17th. and report on
discussions held in Washington with the
Bureau of Reclamation on the Closed Basin
and Wagon Wheel Gap Projects. In Wash-
ington we were asked what our position
would be on the last item and were advised
that water users in New Mexico and Texas
were filing adverse comments on the Wagon
Wheel Gap Project. We were also advised
that it would be poor policy for us to
allow the report to go into the Bureau of
the Budget and in light of these adverse
reports, it would be extremely difficult
to get it through. With regard to the
Closed Basin salvage study, a meeting was
scheduled to get a final decision as to
whether the water users wanted part of
it or none of it. At first it looked as
if the matter would be tabled, but after
the Governor spoke and stated he felt
that additional information would not
hurt anybody, most of the criticism of a
proposed study died down. The meeting
voted in favor of pursuing the study.
Committee conferences are being scheduled
to work out methods to be used in a con-
tinuance of the study."

I

MR. CRAWFORD:

"There has been one meeting of the
Committee which was attended by Mr. Sweet.
Mr. Tipton, Mr. McLaughlin, Mr. Lohman
