<br />710 <br /> <br />Initiation of definite plan investigations on the <br />project have been scheduled to follow work on the Paonia and <br />Smith Fork projects. <br /> <br />Fruitland Mesa Proiect <br /> <br />Our Grand Junction office is glvlng this project <br />top feasibility investigation priority. Geological explora- <br />tions have been completed and work has been resumed on the <br />topography for the project canals. Water supply and agri- <br />. cultural economy studies are both underway. The feasibility <br />report for the project is scheduled for completion late in <br />1957. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Animas-La Plata Project <br /> <br />In November. 1956, I reported to the Board that a <br />feasibility report on the Animas-La Plata project was sche- <br />duled for completion in fiscal year 1962. We are still <br />hopeful of completing this report at an earlier date. On <br />April 9, a meeting was held in the office of the Assistant <br />Commissioner and Chief Engineer where a procedure was dis- <br />cussed and agreed upon for completing the investigation. <br /> <br />The local water users and organizations have re- <br />cently shown an extreme interest in this development. On <br />April 26,1957, a check for $5,560 contributed by interests <br />was submitted by the Southwest Water Conservation District <br />to our Regional Office in order to expedite the investiga- <br />tion program. On ~~y 2, 1957. the check was returned to <br />the District with the suggestion that the funds be submitted <br />to Mr. Crawford, who is the State official with whom contacts <br />and cooperation should be maintained during investigations in <br />accordance with provisions of the flood control act of 1944. <br />It was suggested that the District contact Mr. Crawford with <br />respect to the investigation and to the participation of the <br />interested parties and the State in such investigations. The <br />Bureau will be glad to work with Mr. Crawford to the end that <br />a satisfactory agreement is completed. <br /> <br />The Durango office is now engaged in the preparation <br />of water supply studies and the cost estimates for supplying <br />project water to the City of Durango. <br /> <br />Dolores Project <br /> <br />Topographic surveys of project lands and detailed <br />land classification work are now about 65 percent complete. <br /> <br />I <br />
