It is the policy of the <br />Government to work for and encourage the incorporation <br />of this community as a city under the laws of the State <br />of Arizona, as early as practicable. <br /> <br />Bids will be opened May 28 for construction of I <br />access road. streets. and water distribution and sewage <br />systems for Page, Arizona. Recent bid openings for facili- <br />ties to serve the new community cover construction of a <br />150,000 gallon elevated water tank, 3,000,000 gallon stor- <br />age reservoir, and area grading and foundation construction <br />for 50 demountable houses. Plans and specifications for <br />about 290 temporary and permanent Government houses, an ad- <br />ministration building, and other facilities are nearing com- <br />pletion in the Chief Engineer's office here in Denver. There <br />is a possibility, however, that arrangments will yet be made <br />for private construction of the permanent houses. Indivi- <br />duals of firms engaged in business in Page will be obligated <br />to construct their own business buildings and residences. with <br />plans approved by the Bureau of Reclamation and in accordance <br />with zoning regulations and other standards. <br /> <br />Information on permits and leases for bUpiness <br />enterprises and residences in Page is now available. I have <br />a few copies of this information with me if anyone is inter- <br />ested at this time. <br /> <br />Flaminq Gorqe Unit <br /> <br />Only sligh~y less advanced than work at Glen Can- <br />yon is that at Flaming Gorge. An extensive diamond-drilling <br />and water testing program has been completed on a three-shift <br />daily basis. With foundation conditions thus determined, <br />construction designs for the dam are being made in the Chief <br />Engineer's office. Field forces have been located at ~~ni1a <br />and Vernal. Utah. and at Green River. Wyoming. Construction <br />of the first 7.6 miles of access road east from Linwood, Utah, <br />including a temporary bridge across the Green River is nearly <br />completed. The remaining 10 miles of the access road will be <br />under construction during the coming summer. <br /> <br />The construction camp at the Flaming Gorge Dam will <br />be at Dutch John Flat on the north side of the river about 2 ,I~. <br />miles from the dam site. A population of about 3,000 is ex- <br />pected during construction of the dam. Bids will be opened <br />June 4. 1957, for construction of streets, utilities, and for <br />the Flaming Gorge Community facilities. Invitations for the <br />construction of the dam and powerhouse are scheduled for <br />issuance in January 1958, with award of contract in r~rch <br />1958. <br />
