There heing no further discussion of individual

I

projects, Mr. Kroeger called upon Mr. Roland Fischer,

Secretary - Engineer of the Colorado River Water Conservation

~

District. Mr. Fischer noted tnat his district supports all

1
,

of the West Slope projects previously mentioned and concurs

in the need to continue planning on those projects which

have, at this time, becn found economically feasible. In

particular, he noted that there is a need to insure that

these projects' water rights decrees are appropriateiy

protected in the face of the due diiiigence proceedings to

which they will be subject from time to time.

To conclude the review of the President's appropriation

request for Colorado water projects, Mr. Kroeger called upon

Mr. John Brown, Manager of the Durango Projects Office, Upper

Coiorado RegIon, U.S. Water and Power Resources Service,

Ourango, Colorado. Mr. Brown addressed himself to the

Doiores, Animas-La Plata, and San Miguel projects. With

respect to the Animas-La Plata project, he noted that

planning is completed and that, as far as the services is

concerned, all three construction requirements have been

satisfied. With respect to the San Miguel project, Mr. Brown

noted that it had incurred the same difficulties as the West

Divide project in that a favorable cost/benefit ratio could

not be identified. Mr. Brown concluded his remarks by

reporting on the status of the Paradox Valley and McElmo

Creek salinity control projects.

-7-

:
