Approximately 93,000 af of ground water is pumped
each year for agricultural use. Approximately 24,000 af per year of Project water was allocated
to the 11 major ditch systems from 1970-94, with a maximum of 94,800 afin 1989. During
1976-95, approximately 32,000 af per year of Project water was released from Pueblo Reservoir
for the Winter Water Storage Program (WWSP). In all reservoirs, WWSP supplies range
between approximately 86,000 and 217,000 af and averaged 153,000 af during the 1976-97
period.

.

Task 5 - Water Conservation Efforts

Under HB 1154, the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) currently reviews plans
provided to the State of Colorado by entities that retail more than 2000 af of water per year to
customers in their service area. HB 1154 requires evaluation of at least nine conservation
measures and identification of the entity's best judgment on the future role of a water use
efficiency plan in future water supply planning. A conservation plan is then to be prepared,
adopted (after public comment), and implemented. As part of Tasks 5 and 6 of the Assessment
Project, our team considered the role of water conservation and water-saving measures in
reducing future per capita use and the resulting effect on water demand forecasts for SECWCD
water supply entities.

974] I\PROGRPT.OO2
