.

.

.

SECWCD/Arkansas Basin
Storage Study Committee

-4-

February 26,1998

Forecasts of future water demand in the M&! sector were prepared for the base and high
population forecasts, using locally prepared estimates of per capita use. An adjustment was
made to reflect the possible implementation of additional water conservation measures.

. Task 6 - Water Demand Forecasts

A draft set of water demand forecasts for the M&I sector was prepared, as presented in
Section 5 of the report.

By 2040, M&! water use is expected to increase by between 85,000 af per year (base population
forecast with additional conservation) and 192,000 af per year (high growth rate with current
levels of conservation). With agriculturaI water use held constant, total water demand with the
District is expected to be between 1,043,500 af and 1,1$9,800 afby the year 2040.

. Task 7 - Supply and Demand Comparison

This task has just been started.

.

Task 8 - Needfor Additional Water Supplies

Specific information provided by water supply entities during Tasks 1 and 2 has been tabulated.
Additional assessment of water needs is required.

. Task 9 - Storage Requirements

Specific information provided by water supply entities during Tasks 1 and 2 has been tabulated.
Additional assessments will be underway shortly.

. Task 10 - Assessment of Fry-Ark Project

We met with John Gierard of the Bureau of Reclamation (Loveland) to discuss "reoperation"
potentials. We also began review of studies undertaken for Colorado Springs, relative to
storage space available in Fry-Ark facilities, and met with Lloyd Gronning of Montgomery
Watson to obtain an overview of those studies. We hope to have discussions with the SSC on
February 26, 1998 to obtain input/ideas from SSC members on this issue.

. Task 11 - Water Storage and Supply Alternatives

An initial matrix of potential water storage options has been developed and is to be discussed
at the February 26, 1998, SSC Meeting.

97411\PROGRPT.OO2
