I

I

behalf of the Department of the Interior, we are pleased to be here.

To start with, I would like to introduce some people that we have with
us. Our pleasure is not only for the ground breaking ceremonies for the
Dallas Creek Project, which has taken considerable effort on everyone's
part to get to this point in time, but also it gives us an opportunity
to make an accounting of our stewardship as it relates to the planning
and construction of the reclamation projects in western Colorado.

Some of the people from Salt Lake city that I' might introduce before I
introduce the local people, who will have the burden of making this
presentation -- one is Mr. Reid Nielson, Regional Solicitor, from Salt
Lake city. Reid, would you stand?

Mr. Roland Robison, the Assistant Regional Solicitor. These gentlemen
give us legal advice and consultation with regard to the myriad rules,
regulations, and laws that we have to deal with. They try to keep us
out of trouble and avoid as many pitfalls as possible, and it is quite
a difficult job.

Also from our Salt Lake city office is Mr. John Williams, our Acting
Regional Planning Officer, who has the main responsibility for the
planning that goes into most of these projects.

Then, our local representatives here in western Colorado, who really are
the people who have the main responsibility and obligation for carrying
forth our program here, we have Mr. Frank Carlson, and he will give you
a status report on the Curecanti Project and the Dallas Creek Project.

We have Mr. Rip Radcliffe, from our Cortez office, who has the responsi-
bility of the construction of the Dolores Project; and Mr. J. R. Rinckel,
who is the project manager from Grand Junction. He will give you a
report on the Grand Valley Salinity control unit and the West Divide
Project. We have Mr. Wayne cook, from Durango, who will talk about the
Paradox unit, the Animas-La Plata, and the San Miguel Project; and Mr.
Don Clay, who is the chief of the Planning Office in Grand Junction,
who will give you an update on the Dominguez Reservoir Project and the
Grand Mesa Project.

Then these local representatives of the Bureau may introduce some of
their staff, as they make a presentation.

So at this time we will start, Frank, with you, if you would like to
give us an update first.

MR. CARLSON: (Slide.) Mr. Chairman and board members, on behalf of
myself and the Bureau's Montrose Construction Field Division, I would
like to welcome you to Montrose. We are very happy to have you here.
It is my pleasure to report to you two important events regarding the
Bureau of Reclamation activities.

First of all is the Curecanti Unit.
the completion of the final phase of
the Crystal Dam.

The important event, of course, is
the Colorado River Storage Project,

-13-
