.

.

.

ATTACHMENT 1

FPR 00-510
Flood Insurance Rate Map, City of Northglenn, Colorado, March 31, 1981.

KEY ISSUES:
. The Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) prepared by FEMA contains detailed and approximate
engineering I DO-year floodplain delineations for streams in the city of North glenn. A Flood Insurance
Study (FIS) was not published along with the maps.

. The previously designated 1978 infonnation for Northglenn includes an FIS along with FIRM panels.

. The 198 I Flood Insurance Rate Map revises the corporate boundaries of Northglenn on the northwest
side of the community, and revises a small portion of the floodplain delineation for South Fork Grange
Hall Creek in the vicinity ofInterstate 25.

. The revised portions of the 1978 floodplain will be rescinded, and the new infonnation will be
designated in this proposed resolution

COMMUNITY RESPONSE:
A notification letter was sent by CWCB staff to the local floodplain administrator to inform
the City of the proposed Board action. The floodplain administrator was also contacted via
telephone to discuss the Flood Insurance Study and the designation process. A meeting with
the City is scheduled for January 19, 2000, and it is anticipated that there will be no major
issues or controversies regarding the floodplain designation. At this time, staff is working
under the assumption, based on the telephone contact, that the City supports the proposed
Board action. Therefore, formal designation and approval for this study is being taken under
Rule 9.D.l, community request.

SUMMARY:
The staff recommends Board approval of the floodplain resolution for the City of Northglenn that
designates the March 31, 1981 Flood Insurance Rate Maps. The floodplain information presented
on the maps supersedes the previously designated 1978 study. The designation action will assure
that this floodplain information for Northglenn is explicitly approved by the state, thereby
complying with state statutory requirements.

3
