~J"""

I

multiple-arch concrete dam similar to the one
that is being built at M.orrow point. This
also leads us to predict that the cost of the
project will be no greater than was reported
in the reconnaissance report. ~~ are working
with the Corps on the coordination of flood
control at that site and have received just
recently some favorable flood benefit figures
on the unit. So it is moving well.

On our construction program in Colorado,
the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project is moving for-
ward on several fronts. Construction of Ruedi
Dam has been some\'lhat behind schedule but
diversion of the river was accomplished on
December 20th and the contractor is doing some
scaling work, excavating the foundation and
is completing his cofferdam. So! thiru( things
are looking up at Ruedi.

We are also rather pleased with the
progress that is being made on the construc-
tion of the Divide Tunnel and the South Fork
and Chapman Tunnels. The contractors are
\'Iorking thrbughout the \./inter. They are \'lell
equipped to handle avalanche problems and are
running three shifts a day. The latest report
that I have on the construction of the tunnels
is that the Divide Tunnel is 1943 feet into
the mountain, the South Fork Tunnel 1243 feet,
and Chapman Tunnel 2556 feet.

I

We awarded a contract on the sugar Loaf
Dam to the low bidder, Colorado Constructors,
Inc., and A. S. Horner Construction company.
The low bid was $5,282,852.50. Work has pro-
ceeded on clearing the damsite, the borrow
areas, and we anticipate that construction
will be well under way this spring. Also
SOtt~ progress is being made on road reloca-
tions and service facilities to the project.

We are anticipating money in the '67
budget in the amount of about $30,000 to
initiate a basin survey in the Arkansas Valley,
