I

I

MR. SPARKS:

"So the Bureau no doubt will attempt to
secure additional funds so that the project
report can be completed by the end of our two
year deadline. We will give all possible
priority to that completion date.

In anticipation of securing these funds
we have held a series of meetings in the South
Platte Valley, advising people of our tenta-
tive program. In some cases Bureau of Recla-
mation officials, myself, and others from our
staff, attended those meetings, and in other
cases I attended them alone. To date meet-
ings have been held at Fort Morgan, at Hudson
and some other meetings by the Bureau. In-
directly connected with this, a meeting was
held at Ft. Collins. A meeting is scheduled
tomorrow at Ft. Lupton which I will attend
with Mr. Miller, our Supervising Hydraulic
Engineer. In each case we have tried to pre-
sent the general broad plan and have requested
the people to start thinking about representa-
tives on the steering committee.

The Board will recall that Mr. Stapleton,
Mr. Miller and myself were appointed as a com-
mittee to select members of the steering com-
mittee. At this time we have merely advised
the people in the South Platte Valley that we
would be calling upon them for recommendations
concerning this committee.

Municipalities, including the Cities of
Denver, Englewood, Aurora, Arvada and others
have been contacted and they have all indi-
cated their willingness to participate in
these studies. They have also offered some
financial assistance. Both the City and County
of Denver and the City of Aurora have indi-
cated their desire to participate financially
if necessary. I have advised them in respect
to that, that we would wait until the final
year of the plan and then possibly we would
be short some money to complete the studies
and if so, we would call upon them for finan-
cial assistance.
