MR. STAPLETON:

It is indeed a pleasure to compliment
this Board and its staff on the service which
they have given in engineering, hydrologic
and even water rights information and guidance
to the Game and Fish commission. We now have
before the Game and Fish Commission a policy
statement on water. It has been held up
twice. It will probably be reconsidered
again on March 17th when the Game and Fish
Commission meets. I hope they will adopt that
policy because if they do, it is going to be
a very progressive step forward and I think it
will help to eliminate some of the misunder-
standings and differences of opinion we've had
in the past.

1

I believe that is all I have to comment
on. I do want to express my appreciation for
the attendance of certain members of this
audience to support me in my budget request
before the Joint Budget Committee, particu-
larly in regard to the two research projects,
one, the water law recodification and the
other on the interrelationship of ground and
surface waters. Their help, I know, was very
valuable and it's going to produce results,
I believe. I anticipate we will get the
money for these two projects."

"Thank you very much, Dr. Clark. I think
many of us on the Board overlook unintention-
ally the hard work of our staff, the Director
and everyone connected with them, and it's
good to have you bring it to our attention.
As you know, we have a very competent staff
but it's nice to hear it from someone else.

We have copies of the Regional Bureau
reports on the front desk and other reports
which members of the audience might like to
have.

I

I understand we have a member of the
Corps of Engineers from Omaha here and if he
will stand up and identify himself, we'll
appreciate it."
