MR. STAPLETON:

MR. PETERSON:

MR. JENNINGS:

MR. PETERSON:

we had a meeting with the local people ex-
plaining the details of the project, particu-
larly the excess land provisions, the settle-
ment problems, the problems of contracting,
the problems of organizing the type of organ-
ization that could operate and maintain the
project.

1

On another phase of our program, Investi-
gation of Existing Projects, we have completed
a report on the rehabilitation work on the
Orchard Mesa Division of the Grand Valley
Project, and I think that is on its way now
to Washington.

I believe that completes the report essen-
tially. If there are questions I'll be happy
to try and answer them."

"Any questions? Mr. Peterson.

Mr. Peterson has been working quite
actively on the Grand Mesa Project so he may
be able to add something there too."

"Mr. Chairman, there was another subject
I wanted to ask a question about. I ~ in-
terested in the Grand Mesa Project, very much
so, and this year particularly the people up
there are in very bad shape. Of course, I
realize that no reclamation project can be
quick enough to take care of their needs this
year but this is not the only year they have
been in bad shape. They are in bad shape
every year. Unless we can get them some aid
pretty quickly there, we are going to lose a
lot of good young farmers in that area.

But my question, Bob, had to do with the
transmission system. You said that bids were I
opened February 28th on the Flaming-Gorge-
Rangely, and so on, line. Has contract been
let for that'?"

"Not that I know of, Pete."

"What was the result of the bid opening?"
