~~~~
will not be quite the same because of inflow
between the two sites. East Rifle Creek near
Rifle and Grass Valley Canal near Rifle were
discontinued since investigation work was
completed and the project authorized. Rifle
Creek near Rifle and Plateau Creek near Heiberger
were also dropped because of progress on con-
struction of the two projects involved. Roar-
ing Fork at Aspen was discontinued when the
station was moved upstream above Salvation
Ditch. Kiowa Creek at Bennett, which station
has been operated in cooperation with Colorado
State university, was discontinued since they
no longer had funds to continue the work at
that station. And Big Beaver near Buford which
I mentioned earlier.
Region 7 of the Bureau of Reclamation
is financing an expansion of the Quality of
Surface Waters Program in Colorado. Data on
chemical quality are being determined on a
monthly basis on California Gulch near the
mouth and at the gaging stations on the Arkan-
sas River near Malta, near Portland, and near
Pueblo. Sediment data are being collected on
a semi-monthly basis on the Arkansas River near
Portland and near Pueblo.
The Data Release No.1, 'Quality of Sur-
face Waters in Colorado, 1963 water year' has
become available. It contains data on chemical
quality, sediment loads and temperature for
the sites in the state where information on
quality of surface water was collected. We have
sent a few copies of those reports out to some
of the people whom we thought would be inter-
~sted. We brought a few more copies down today
so they would be available to members of the
Board if they would care to have them.
Most of the effort of the Ground Water
Branch has been spent, since the last report,
in the field. Field work in the Piceance
Basin has consisted of well and spring inven-
tory, measuring geologic sections, mapping
aerial geology, measuring spring discharge, and
pump-testing some of the wells in the area.
I
I
