COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD
823 State Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203

December 1980

APPLICATION - STATE WATER PROJECT

Hyannis Reservoir Company Project

The Hyannis Reservoir Company applied to the Colorado Water
Conservation 80ard for a project in March 1980.

The proposed project is an instream reservoir located near the
headwaters of the East Fork of Ar~pahoe Creek, tributary to Grizzly
Creek in the North Platte River b~sin.

The proposed dam will be abo~t 70 feet high with a crest length
of about 310 feet, and a total capacity of 21227 acre-feet. Conditional
water right to such an amount was adjudicated to the entity in February
1972, with a priority date of Sept-ember 16, 1963. The dam and reservoir
will be located totally on U.S. Forest land, and the water stored will
be used for supplemental irrigation, later in the irrigation season.

No visit was made to the sits by the staff but the project was
discussed at some length with David Mayring, the applicant.

Although no feasibility study has been undertaken so far, it
appears that the proposed project will cost in excess of one million
dollars. A feasibility study to examine the project and evaluate the
effective cost benefit ratio should be above $20,000. Possible state
participation should therefore exceed $10,000.
