COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD
823 State Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203

December 1980

APPLICATION - STATE WATER PROJECT

Rio Grande Reservoir Project

The San Luis Valley Irrigation District applied to the Colorado
Water Conservation Board for assistance in repairing their Rio Grande
Reservoir project in June 1979.

Subsequent to their application and considering the immediate
need of the District for monies for emergency repairs to their dam,
the Colorado Legislature amended S.B. S37 (1979 Session) and made
$90,000 available to the entity for immediate repairs,

Since then the entity, with the State Engineer's staff recommendations,
has decided to carry out a feasibility study. The proposed study would
be addressing all the issues raised in the report prepared by Bruns,
Inc., and make recommendations as to what work would be needed for
the existing dam structure.

A proposal for a study from the engineering firm W.W. Wheeler and
Associates has been received and evaluated by the Board and State
Engineer's staff, The total cost of the study is about $100,000 and
possible state participation should be about fifty percent of the
above amount.
