MR. STAPLETON:

the prime contractor for Ruedi Dam, has com-
pleted excavation of the outlet tunnel which
will be the tunnel used for diversion of the
river. This Was completed on January 19th.
This is another real milestone. The contractor

has started excavation for cutoff trenches on
the right abutment of the dam and for the coffer
dams. Work was started on a detour road over
the left abutment and work has continued on the
improvements of the road from Basalt to the dam-
site. We are pleased with the progress. The
contractor on this site should be able to make
good progress during the construction season
next summer. He has earned $802,000 of his $10~
million contractual funds available, so this is
a substantial bit of progress.

Our mapping contracts are also proceeding.
These will give us basic topographic data to
permit us to complete our design data on certain
key features, including the railroad relocation
around the Pueblo Reservoir.

We are making good progress on the plans
for the Divide Tunnel. The Chief Engineer is
busily engaged in getting out the designs and
specifications, and we will advertise for bids
in March with the award in late Mayor early
June. This is right on schedule.

Our Hayden-Archer transmission work in
which we interconnect the Colorado River storage
transmission system with the Western bivision
of the Missouri River Basin is proceeding. We
have been making good progress in some phases
of this work in the pouring of footings and
stringing. While we anticipate some delays in
the Yampa Valley, the general progress on the
work is good.
