Mr. Stapleton had 'to step
out a minute to answer a telephone call.

From the Geological Survey, Mr. Odell are
you giving the report?"

MR. ODELL:

"Yes."

MR. SPARKS:

"Mr. Jack Odell."

MIl.. ODELL:

"Mr. Chairman, members of the Board, and
guests, runoff for the month of January in
Colorado was generally about median. Precipi-
tation was above normal in most areas except
on the eastern plains and there they are still
lagging behind unfortunately. The February 1st
snow surveys showed that the average snow in
the mountains with water content ranging from
about 120 to about 150 percent of normal. Now
this, of course, was prior to our storm of yes-
terday and also prior to the storm that a good
deal of the area got on February 1st, right
after the first of the month. So conditions
now should be, if anything, improved somewhat.
I think Bud Sweet's comment that it's a little
early to make an accurate forecast on the situ-
ation was well presented because we all know
that the earlier snows aren't the ones that
produce our big runoff. They prime it and if
things keep coming we are in good shape; if
they don't, some of that early snow seems to
dribble away by ablation and it doesn't produce
the runoff. to

I

MR. SPARXS:

"What was that word again?"

MR. ODELL:

"Ablation. ..
