Over the
last decade, we have seen the restoration of the River
banks and channel, the construction of an 11 mile hike-bike
trail (which, by the way, should reach Chatfield reservoir
by 1988), and the creation of a series of riverside parks,
ranging in size from 2 to 15 acres.

One of our goals has always been to provide a more
uniform amount of water flowing along the South Platte in
the Denver-metro area from April to September, thereby
greatly improving the River for water related recreational
activities. The Platte River Greenway Foundation has
already overseen the construction of four white-water
boatchutes between W. Alameda Ave. and 20th Ave., and has
notched or removed numerous smaller checkdams and drop
structures. These efforts have resulted in the South
Platte in Denver being viewed as a first-rate boatable
River for the canoe, kayak, and rubber raft enthusiast.

I would like to work with you to bring about two
changes in the water release policies of Chatfield and Bear
Creek reservoirs, both of which would alleviate some, if
not all, of the excess storage situation:

PLATTE RIVER GREENWAY FOUNDATION

1666 S.
