I

I

,

MR. STAPLETON:

~/.L:J

course,is not advantageous from a fisheries
standpoint. The influx of water usually brings
in food organisms, of course, and this is good.
I won't dwell on this particular point further
because, as I say, Mr. Chairman and gentlemen,
there are others here who are better equipped
and qualified to argue these particular points.

I would like to answer one more point
here, in the statement here that 'There are a
number of other arguments advanced against the
permanent pool, most of which are elaborations
of the above nine points. Many of the points
set out above are documented or reinforced by
engineering studies made by the Game and Fish
Department.'. To my knowledge we have not
made any extensive engineering studies of the
John Martin pool nor of the John Martin Reser-
voir itself. Our engineering studies are
mainly concerned with those building new im-
poundments wherever we purchase or wherever
we are able to acquire land or water rights
and we have not gone into any extensive engi-
neering studies there. We have made some
preliminary fishery studies. We have two of
our men here, I believe, at least one, who can
speak on these if there are questions arise
regarding the limnology or the fisheries man-
agement.

I would like to close by stating again,
gentlemen, that the Game, Fish and Parks De-
partment and commission is very much interested
in seeing this pool established. We will do
everything we can to cooperate with all inter-
ested', parties' and we feel that this will be
an asset to the people of the state. We are
certainly prepared to put whatever money we
are able to put together and get legislative
approval on to purchase the necessary water
and maintain the permanent pool.

Thank you."

"Thank you very much. Mr. Elliott.
there any questions from members of the
Mr. Milenski has a question."

Are
Board?
