.:lb!::l:G

appropriated budget is being withheld. This was
not serious in some of our bUdget items. The
only serious thing that occurred, which I wrote
to the Board about previously, was that it cur-
tailed the possibility of our being able to
cooperate with the Bureau of Reclamation on the
Two Forks and Upper Gunnison studies, and also
with Colorado State University on our ground
water program.

Mr. Eckles has assisted us in attempting
to get this money put back into our budget so
that we can go ahead with our project investiga-
tions the way they were originally planned.
And we believe this will be accomplished so
that our investigation program will not be
effected.

The only other item which affected us in
the budget reduction was in our travel. Since
we are already in critical shape for travel
funds for this year, we will have to economize
greatly for the rest of the year. As a matter
of fact, it appears that we will be completely
out of travel funds by about the 1st of March.
This means we will have to curtail Board meetings
and our out-of-state travel. We are now reducing
the number of inter-agency committee meetings
that we normally attend. Instead of the two or
four a year in the various river basins we will
cut that down to about half of what we have had
previously. In other words, we will not have a
representative at many of these inter-agency
conferences.

On the other reductions we were not particu-
larly effected. We had already effected some
economies in our salary and staffing pattern and
in our normal office operations.

The item of litigation, I put that there
merely to bring to your attention that in the
case of Arizona v. California in the Supreme
Court, the petition of California for rehearing
was denied and we anticipate that a final decree
will be entered very shortly in that case. I

I

t.

I
