..JUV..J

mention this because it has an important bear-
ing upon a later agenda item here, the Pacific
Southwest Water Plan.

I

On the Two Forks, with carry-over state
funds and some funds provided to us by the Gover-
nor, the sum of $10,000, plus contributions from
local agencies, the Bureau has commenced investi-
gations on the Two Forks Project. We have not
yet actually formed a steering committee. The
Inter-County Regional Planning Commission has
become interested in trying to effect some coop-
eration in water planning among the different
agencies of the metropolitan area. One explora-
tory meeting has been held by that agency,
which I attended. Another will be held later
this month. We plan on setting up a committee
drawn from the municipalities and other inter-
ested agencies in the metropolitan area which
will function for some time in the future, as a
coordinating agency among the metropolitan
cities. We anticipate that this agency formed
by the Inter-County Regional Planning Commission
will also act as a steering committee for the
Two Forks Project. We will have a report on
that to the Board sometime later this month when
the final formalizing meeting of that planning
commission takes place.

I

The other major item in the Director's
Report, and I'll have to use this map to illus-
trate this, involves the Narrows project. I
merely put this quad map up here to give you
some idea of what we are talking about as con-
cerns this project. The Narrows Project is
running somewhat a parallel history to the
Trinidad Project although a little worse. The
Trinidad Project was authorized in about 1952
and we are still talking about constructing it.
The problems have originated because of local
differences of opinion. The Narrows Project
was authorized in 1946. Now this is something
novel because all of you appreciate the diffi-
culty in getting a project authorized by Con-
gress. But to get one authorized and then not
be able to construct it is something which dis-
turbs us deeply.
