3674

MR. CORNELIUS:

MR. SPARKS:

MR. GILDERSLEEVE:

MR. SPARKS:

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. KROEGER:

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. KROEGER:

"No, I haven't seen Bud Sweet since that
correspondence."

"Mr. Gildersleeve, do we have a reconnais-
sance report On that Rio Grande salvage as yet?"

"No, we haven't received one yet."

I

"We are anticipating that we will get a
report in the very near future. As I recall,
that is now in Region 5, has been completed
and we are waiting for its release. Part of
the mOney that went into that study came from
this Board and part from the conservancy dis-
tricts concerned. I think this just went into
the Conejos, however. But it could fit in with
any overall program either on the San Antonio
or on the lower reaches of the Rio Grande.

It is very possible that putting all the
salvage and channelization together we could
perhaps come up with 40,000 or 50,000 acre-feet
of water annually. Again it is a question of
how the cost is to be borne. If we could get
some program essentially as New Mexico had On
the Middle Rio Grande with both state and
federal funds, perhaps we could attack it on
a purely salvage basis throughout the basin.
We will take this matter up with Region 5 immed-
iately to see if we can't carryon and broaden
the salvage reconnaissance study."

"Any further comment on this problem or
any other in Region 5?"

"Mr. Chairman."

II Fred. n

"Mr. Chairman, I note that they are giving
some consideration to modifying the Blanco and
Oso Diversion Dams for fishery purposes and
I'd like to comment that I think this is a very
worthwhile thing and Colorado can realize some
recreational benefits out of this and this
Board, I think, should encourage this in any
manner that is possible."

I
